Q. I just asked for ours today... I think it's nationwide in U.S. free at http://annualcreditreport.com - actually, you can get one from each free each year... anyhoo, although I always believe there will be no surprises, there have always been some for me... this year, for example, it showed that we used to live in florence, alabama... now, no offence to any alabama folks, but I've never been to alabama... and they had a credit card shown as active that's been closed for a decade... so i submitted the info for them to investigate.... and then i felt... gee, why should I be the only one upset about all their inaccuracies.... ? I'll tell the NG and get them to ask for their credit report history and then I'll have good company.

A. what we were offered from equifax was an immediate online report to be saved or printed before closing your browser. I was careful to do that and I checked the printout before closing browser. there is another option to keep online for a month for free, but that requires that you 'register' as an equifax customer (no charge, but you still divulge info as though you were buying something...). the 'credit score' is not part of the federal requirement for a free report, so the credit score is approx $8. I didn't care about that, as we were interested in making sure that there were no unexpected items there. and it pays to keep track of of purchases. 7-8 years ago when we bought a piece of furniture, the furniture store opened an unasked-for credit line for us, yet we had paid cash. the account was closed, but such extra material is confusing.
