Anyone use wireless credit card machines?

Q. Anyone use wireless credit card machines? Does anyone have any experience with wireless point of sale / credit card machines. If so, I'd like more info on who I'd need to contact to purchase/rent one, what kind of service/reliabilty you've had with the machine (breakdowns and such), etc. I'd like to accept credit cards, and be able to process them at the various fairs I do. Any info would be grately appreciated.

A. - I had a set-up with a cell phone. At the time, I had to buy a car phone and the black box (over $200) to connect the phone to my data capture machine. If I had electricity, I plugged it in- I had an adapter for that- and if not, I used the phone battery - Does anyone have any experience with wireless point of sale / credit card machines. If so, I'd like more info on who I'd need to contact to purchase/rent one Never had a break down. Don't know if they still offer the same set up but I pay $.20 per transaction 1.79% discount rate and NO statement fee. If you have no charges in a month they charge $6.00. Most merchant accounts charge you a statement fee upwards to $10 to $15 a month. When I'm on the road and using the cell phone for cards the cell phone charge is about $1.02 a call. - I have used the POS 50 cellular, battery powered terminal for three years. I paid $1300 for a reconditioned (like new) unit from the manufacturer: US Wireless Data/Boulder, Co. 1-800-979-3282 I have needed only receipt paper rolls and several cheap printer ribbons. I process through my bank for .20/trans, 1.79% and $12.95/month statement fee. The cell charge is about $1/trans. The unit is an all in one, handled plastic case, enclosing the battery, printer, card reader, keypad, and cell phone electronics. I use an optional external antenna for max signal strength, and occasionally the optional phone handset for voice calls. From swipe to authorized receipt is usually less than a minute. Last month I ran out of battery power after 55 transactions in one day, one very good day. I've been using a VON Jr with my Motorola cell phone for over a year with great success. It's actually better than tryng to call them in for verbal authorization numbers because I find that I don't have to worry about background noise (like a live band, stage show, railroad trains, airplanes, etc). You do need a power source for the VON Jr-I use a deep cycle marine battery with a converter. Works great! Let me know if you need more specific info.
