Q. My husband and I are in the process of moving to the US (Washington DC) on a G4 visa. We currently have a very good credit rating, and an HSBC Mastercard. Obviously we don't want to have to start from scratch and build a new credit rating, nor do we want to have to pay for exchan- ge rate differences by continuing to use our UK credit card. Does anyo- ne know of any banks/ credit card companies who will transfer our credit rating from the UK?

See: http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.- php?t=252064 I called HSBC Bank USA in Buffalo and arranged with a manager there to get a credit card on the strength of my existing credit with HSBC. (They don't have any branches local to me, but that doesn't matter.) You may want to get your UK branch to write a letter for you to HSBC Bank USA for you to provide to them. HSBC in the UK do have people at head office who are meant to help with that sort of thing, but I found them pretty useless a few years ago.
