Q. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance need ? The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA), sponsored by the IRS, is offering free Basic Training Classes in the Wash., DC area Jan 6, 13, 20, 27, 1996. The hours are from9am-5pm each day. The course prepares you to prepare income taxes for the low income and elderly. It also an excellent and FREE way to learn about income tax preparation. For those with experience or who are past volunteers, a Refresher course will be held on Jan 13th from 9am-1pm.

A. -May I say this is an EXCELLENT way to learn tax prep and to see if you really like the work. In 1984-85 I was a VITA volunteer in Kingman AZ. It cemented my love for tax work. I was also the only volunteer under the age of 50, with 2 small children that "helped" (the 2 yr old colored and the 3 month old captivated the clientele) and was made an honorary Senior Citizen at the age of 25. Of course, that designation loses it's charm as I get older. If you are at all interested in this taxing lifestyle, get out there and do it. You will not regret it.
