Finance Q&A

Still Happy With Verizon

Edwards Finance > Phones

Q. My Motorola V276 finally had it. It would not charge. We are traveling right now. We got into Memphis this afternoon and I called VZW. Our new in two was dated 9/25/07 and it was only 8/25. The Tech person changed the date of eligibility to today, 8/25 just in case I couldn't get my phone fixed. She was extremely pleasant and helpful. I didn't even ask about the new in two changing, she just told me she was doing it. She gave me two numbers of stores near the motel where we were staying. One was a mall store but the other was a Verizon store and the young man who answered gave us excellent directions and told us that the tech would be there until 6 PM and that they would take care of me immediately. The tech took the phone immediately and after 20 minutes, stated that she couldn't solder it. We were faced with buying a new phone.

A. The salesman could not have been sweeter. I told him that we live on the edge of a tower's area and in a concrete house. He suggested an LG VX 8300 which has a nubby antenna. I had to pay $50 but it would be rebated so the phone was free. Since we were traveling, he offered to mail the rebate form for us and gave me an envelope to address which he was going to mail for me. He also said he will cancel the V-Cast that comes free for the first month. I'm worried that I won't remember to cancel it. I don't need it. The interesting thing about this phone is that one can purchase a card for the pictures then have them printed at WalMart. That's a lot better than 25 cents a photo to send them. I hope I got a decent phone as I had no time to research it. We have always wanted our phone to play "Take Me Out To The Ball Game" as a ring tone but never could figure out how to do it. He found it for us and downloaded it at our request. When our phone rings, it sings the song. DH is delighted! I needed a car charger and the entire kit with a Blue Tooth ear-thing, case and car charger was $50. He set the phone up for the Blue Tooth, transferred all of the numbers from the old phone to the new phone and even called us on our new phone so we could hear the ring tone. After all of that wonderful service, he even gave us directions to The Rendevous, where we had some of the extraordinary ribs Memphis is famous for. I have absolutely no problems signing on for another 2 years with Verizon. Since 2000 they have taken good care of me. I'm disappointed in the Motorola V276, hopefully this LG will be better. You'll like the 8300. It's the best phone they have, IMHO. I have two. I really enjoy my Palm Treo 700wx now, but for a non-PDA phone, I think the 8300 does better at "phone stuff" than any other phone on their roster. While your story about Verizon employees seems to be an anomaly, from my experience with them, I have to admit, it is the network. I've had the VX8300 for over a year. You will not be disappointed Not an anomaly for me. With the exception of one incident where I was charged a late fee because my credit card had expired and they couldn't figure out that it was still a valid card just with a new expiration date. We spent hours with a so-called supervisor who refused to credit us the late charge. We hung up and called again and the CSR we got on the next call gave us the credit. We got our phone in 2000 and it had National Single Rate. A few times we were billed for roaming and each time they apologized and gave us credit. It seems there was a glitch in their billing program. One tech wrote it up and it never happened again. We kept the National Single Rate until December of 05 as we had settled in one place and I wanted the IN calling. Even though we renewed in December of 05, changed our number to a local one and got a new phone, our New In Two stayed at September, when we got our first Verizon phone. The one thing I'll not do again is purchase their insurance. When one phone got wet, it cost me $25 plus the $5 per month I'd been paying all along to get the phone replaced. It's cheaper to just buy a new phone, IMHO. We don't take insurance any longer. I am a happy customer. I've had service in places where others have not. Most people I know with Verizon don't have any problems with the company or the sales people.
