Q. Are outgoing calls recorded even when they aren't answered? I hadn't realized that. If they are, then your idea, Maggie, that it was a redialed number could be at least DISPROVED if not proved absolutely by checking that record. If the number called prior to the 7:19 call was the same it could be that someone just picked up the phone and accidentally hit redial. Which would point to someone unfamiliar with the phone but then that person must have been wearing gloves. Would Camm have hit redial just wanting to see what number was dialed last - checking up on his wife??

A. I agree, and it sounds like that's all the real evidence they have. TWELVE people have testified Camm was playing basketball when the murders occurred so it just seems very unlikely that they all neglected to notice he was gone long enough to make the call from home and kill his family. OTOH, wouldn't it be something if he had hired someone to off his family and the hit man ended up implicating him because he accidentally touched the redial button on the phone? And the phone thing you mentioned won't work. The "redial" button applies to whatever phone was used for the specific call and the "calls placed" that shows up on the phone bill applies to all calls from any phone in the house. IOW, if Camm placed the call to the potential client from, say, his office phone on the 27th, either he, his wife or the children could have placed a hundred calls from other phones in the house and on the 28th, if someone went into his office and pushed "redial," that phone would still redial the client. Yes, I see what you mean about the redial. Also, I was thinking of my own phone and even if I want to see the last number dialed I don't have turn the phone on so no call would be made. Never mind. I have not read up on this case much - it has caught my attention recently with this phone call thing. Where was his "office" at home? Was the office number different from the home phone number? Was the 7:19 p.m. supposed call to Miller's home or office (the article says Camm left messages both places the day before)? I just discovered this case about a week ago myself, so I can't answer many of your questions. I don't even know if this guy *had* an office in his house. If I find out more, I'll let you know.
