Testing equipment advice ?

Edwards Finance > Phones

Q. I get a catalog from a company called Techni-Tool. They seem to have quite a selection of data and telephone test equipment. I'm pretty sure I saw a data logging device for pulse and DTMF. But I don't know about CID. I checked their web site and it is not as extensive as their catalog, so I would suggest that you either call them and/or request their catalog. They don't mfg the devices so you may be able to at least get a list of mfg's from the catalog and contact the makers direct. They would probably have even a bigger or at least a more detailed listing of equipment and have more detailed specifications and be able to discuss the technicalities better then the distributor.

A. I use CID for Contact ID. Most folks consider CID as Caller ID. If it buffers up DTMF, it SHOULD buffer up Contact ID. I'm not expecting a miracle, (the unit will actually format Caller ID for my techs). I'm just as happy if it buffers up the last 200 tones. I did come across an interesting company. Tele-Soft out of Boise. Their unit, Dialer Buddy looks like it might be what I'm looking for. They also had an interesting auto dialer which looks like it might make a good elevator dialer for us too. They're easy enough to design. I figured they would be plentiful in the 'telephone interconnect' industry and I've found a few today. Ideally, I want my techs to go to the panel upon first arriving at a service call or check'n test call and hook up the tester to the panel battery and the communicator, (in parallel). I want the unit to dial up the station and send a code that will automatically place the account in 'test' mode. I want my techs to send several signals. Afterwards, I want them to play back the test unit to confirm which number(s) were dialed and what codes were sent. Then I want the unit to signal the CS automation that the test is over and to toggle the account back in 'respond' mode. I wan the unit to also send the telephone number(s) it called up to the automation software to be recorded there. That's what I want today, (could want more tomorrow). I suspect I'll be compromising somewhat when the time comes to purchase the units. Interestingly enough, I found an OEM product that I could probably get to do all this with a notebook computer but practicality dictates I settle on the core requirement(s). Thanks for your offer. You might want to take a look at www.telsoftinfo.com. It's primitive but it looks like it does what I want. I also have a soft spot for Idaho. he had a lot of interesting stuff. I'm leaning towards a full solution with a laptop and the add on piece from Tele-soft. I'm being drawn into redefining the service department. There's a lot of stuff they don't have they should have.
