Need help w/ Phone test equipment ?Q. That is, they have two or more RJ11 jacks, each assigned a two or three digit phone number. You can plug in a standard analog phone and call any other port. The device handles dial tone and ring generation, as well as busy signals, etc. Some even allow you to adjust the line quality. What are these things called? Where can I go to get more info and perhaps purchase one? How much do they cost (ballpark)? A. company is Teltone the gadget is called a telephone line simulator their model TLS 3 is about $400 from Specialized tools @800-866-5353 they are charging retail. they also have a deluxe version to simulate some pbx features. ok so what do you want it for.... ??? this is way over priced for a power supply and a 30cps ring gen. I don't think it should be over $50 to $75 bucks... But... again What are you going to use it for? It is for demo only if you don't have a couple of dial tone lines you can hook into... "TLS 3 Telephone Line Simulator, the Portable CO" It's a little black box with RJ11s and two sets of 'gators that allow you to connect two handsets (or faxes, modems, whatever) and have them act as if connected to a real switch... ...it supplies dialtone, busy tone, and ringback for two lines, and allows you to talk between them... no mention of assigning telephone numbers to the lines in the ad, however... Lists for $475. (incidentally, I do not work for TechniTool, and I think most of their equipment is *way* overpriced...) It's always interesting to look thru the catalogue, tho. These are called Telephone Demonstrators, and Proctor & Associates makes them. We also make telephone test equipment, that test the phones to telephone industry specs. The demonstrators range in price from $260 to $685. The least expensive model is a two line device, and the highest price model simulates Caller ID, Centrex and custom calling features.
