Telephone Entry Systems ?Q. A few months ago I installed a telephone entry control in a fairly large building (approx.250 units). The installation went well, but it took me an hour and a half to program all the names and phone #s'. Of course there were problems with residents not giving proper numbers or misspelling of their names. This makes for continued editing. The building management has asked me to install a system at a second location and I want to do a better job this time. Is there a unit that will allow me to make programming changes through either a remote modem download or a direct line connection? A. Look at the AeGIS 9000, which has an RS-232 port and data management software available. Available through Pack & Co. 714.498.2951 I second the Aegis 9000. I've used S.K., Door King and Pach. The most flexible, as far as remote programming, is the Pach & Co. Aegis 9000. Nice unit. I know this is off the subject. Since so many of you are from universities, I thought you might be able to help us. Our computer center at Calif Univ of Pa is looking for touchtone telephone entry systems to use for class registration. I started to reply privately, but thought this might be of interest here anyway (well, it's *sorta* help related). A&M has had a phone registration system for about 7 years now. It took a few years to get the bugs worked out, but it seems to work pretty good now. We are looking at adding on-line registration for the returning students that have accounts - I believe the Univ. of Texas @ Austin (gasp!) has been doing that for a little while now. I would suggest that before they decide on any particular product, they take a look at both of our systems. I don't know who you can contact at U.T., but could find a name of someone here fairly easily if you're interested (let me know via private e-mail).
