Problem with Telephone Company ?

Edwards Finance > Phones

Q. I recently swithed from one phone company to another. They both are now sending me bills and I end up to pay twice. What is the best way of complaining?

A. By telephone? 1. Call up the business office of the phone company you formerly used. Complain and ask for a billing adjustment and a refund. If the first drone you talk to won't fix the problem, ask to speak to a supervisor (aka second level drone). 2. If that fails, write a demand letter asking for a full refund and billing correction. Give them some reasonable period of time (15 days) to contact you and verify that the correction is made, and an additional 15 or 30 days to send you a refund. 3. If that fails, complain to your state's public utilities commission. You could also take the telco to small claims court if you can produce documentation of the date when you switched. (Copies of letters telling the old company to stop "serving" you are useful.) We don't know it's LD, most likely it's cellular. And don't assume that it isn't a child, you wouldn't believe what I see walk up to cell phone kiosks looking to sign up for service. Send the old phone company a letter via certified mail telling them that you are no longer a customer and that you will not pay any bills. Given that when you sign up for a new landline long distance (or local) service, the old one gets notified, I personally think it's more likely cell phone. Now that you can switch your cell phone number, many people (myself included until recently) thought that once you switched your old number and canceled your old service, you would not get billed for the remainder of the month on your old number. Wrong. Most cellular companies do not pro-rate months when you cancel, so you end up paying for both phones for the remainder of your billing month on the old account.
