Q. Does anyone have or know where I could obtain Plessey DECS system telephones and/or the necessary PABX cards?

A. Can i pick the system information out from a telefon-system with CAPI (for example AVM FritzCard and Telekom XI721)? For me the busy conditions of the individual participants would be interesting within the telephone system. System telephones can indicate this over LED's. For heavens sake, buy a proper RAID storage system, they aren't that expensive on eBay. One of networked storage devices IS a RAID storage system. However whilst that's fine for the active data, I still prefer the piece of mind which comes from an additional copy of the data at a different location. A computer consultant friend of mine is currently in the process of rebuilding a system for a company that was foolishly relying on a single RAID storage device. It failed and didn't recover properly. The disks had to be sent away to a professional data recovery service. For a home system you have to consider possibilities such as floods, leaks, fire and theft any of which could eliminate both disks of a RAID system at the same time. Hmm, my RAID system isn't two disk, but almost twenty. For various reasons it's immune to most of the risks you mention (but not infallible, I agree). Watch out when you are walking to the shops - a wheel might fall off a Jumbo Jet and kill you. You don't say whether that's your 'home' system, but, even if it isn't, that's definitely some system you've got yourself there! It's an obsolete industrial strength server I bought on eBay for essentially the cost of carriage. Weighs a lot! Probably cost ten grand or more when new.
