Office Phone System ?

Edwards Finance > Phones

Q. We are moving Office soon, at present we have a Goldstar pbx(?) system, which is getting a bit old and spare phones, etc, are now difficult to find, so we are looking at putting in a new system in the new office. There will only be a need for about 6 phones, but we do want to have an intercom facility with them and be able to put calls through to different phones (they can all ring when we get an incoming call).

A. How many incoming / outgoing trunk lines do you have need. Also remember that this figure could get higher in future - so you need to allow for a a bit more. Do you need any other features such as voicemail? You will actually need the PBX (box on the wall) - a cheap pbx is much cheaper than featureline, the only service that would allow pbx features direct from the exchange. Many basic analogue pbx systems will allow normal phones to be used. For simple, cheap analogue pbx's to install yourself ebay has some, if you want it installed and top quality though be prepared to pay more. I know nothing abouth the seller though (does say new) - at least it gives you an idea on price and the kind of thing, obviously have a google around for similar systems, probably from brand names that offer warrenty etc. - Panasonic KXTA624 (which is supplied as 3+8 but expands to 6+24). Requires 1 system phone for programming, but can use standard phones for other extensions. Very flexible call answering and Least Cost Routing setup. If you are *sure* your needs will not exceed 2 lines in the foreseeable future, then Panasonic KXTA208 (2+8, or is it KXTA206, offline so can't check) does not need a system phone for programming. Available new (and the manuals can be downloaded as PDFs) from www.tlc-direct.co.uk - BT/Norstar Compact 616 or Compact Plus. Now no longer available new AFAIK, but a very popular system often available on Ebay and installers are familiar with it. Only uses system phones, which may be a drawback (although the Plus has one analogue extn port for use with answering machine, fax, etc).
