Social Security Office....very unfrugal, inefficient ?Q. I've gone to the local SSA office about 5 times over the last month trying to get my mother-in-law's Medicare case complete. Each time they say bring another document, form, etc. and when I come back with that form, they say "well, now you need this other form or document." 5 times. Each time I have to wait in line about an hour; can't drop the stuff in the dropbox because there's always a question I need to ask. Can't call in the question either becasue they never answer their phone, rings and rings. A. You could have taken my form and answered my question by now." "Sir, I am on break!" "Did you clock out?", I ask. "Not yet." "Then you're wasting taxpayer's time by not working and tying that other worker up as well." The workers at the SSA office that I've dealt with are all snotty, pissy and rude with people. Which makes the customers rude and pissy also, so the SSA workers get even more pissy. Vicious circle. Also there's a short, curly-headed federal police officer (has a gun even) sitting at a desk twiddling his thumbs all day, reading Popular Mechanics, waiting for the day when a pissed off taxpayer attacks one of the nasty broads he's sworned to protect. He probably pulls down $60,000/year of your federal tax dollars. They could have hired a private security guard for $10/hour. Well if you need to ask a question you need to speak to a human I guess. I don't know where you are located but according to my mom, who fits the description above to a tee, she's been very peased with the service she's received from the SS office here. Did he tell you his salary? If not please cite where we can verify this income. Each time I have done this, the job match was good and I got the job.. Bottom line, the state employment office is not an employment agency, as it should be. It is just an office full of paper pushers with only their own jobs on their narrow minds. I completed my case totally by mail, never setting foot in an office anywhere. It's much simpler that way, and anybody can do it that way. You might check into continuing your process by mail. You should have ONE person in charge of your case; start by finding out who that is and giving him/her a call. And you should know by now that bitching and moaning isn't going to get you anywhere, no matter how much it may be deserved. Lighten up and you might get a bit more of a better attitude in return.
