small office phone system ?

Q. We have a small office with 3 CO lines and 5 extensions. I really want a KSU-less system but have tried the ATT964 and Panasonic wireless KX-TG4000, both with undesirable results. I have pretty much convince myself that I need a KSU system and have narrowed down the search to the Panasonic 624 and 308. I have a few questions and hope someone can help me out.

A. 1. Besides digital vs analog, what is the advantage of the 308 over 624. I am leaning towards the 624 for the bundled Caller ID feature. 2. I have a receptionist to handle incoming calls, if he is on line 1 and when line 2 or 3 rings, does the phone give any kind of signal that there is another line coming in? Can he put line 1 on hold and pick up line 2? 3. We have DSL on line 3 with a DSL filter installed, would it be a problem with the 624? 4. We use modem occasionally, if we just plug it into the phone jack outside of the 624, does it cause problem beside not being able to use the line? Thant makes it your choice as to which system you will need. Always look to the future needs. Depending on the Brand, I suggest Nortel, I have had one in my home office at several locations over the years and am very satisfyed with them. Rollover is handled thru your dialtone carrier using Foward On Busy. They set up the forwards for you, as for the dsl no problem, If you use it for data and fax I suggest a comshare 5500 or 7500 from command communications. Along with your filter it will route your calls for you to the approiate location. As for ringing while on line 1 for line 2, that again is your choice, it is changed in programming as to what appears and rings where when and under what circumstances. As for using a modem, the comshare above will take care of that, when your on the modem it gives the phone system a busy tone on that line, no one can pick it up and kick off your modem connection, but they cant use the line either. If you want shoot me a exact setup your desiring and I will suggest a Nortel product that fits your needs. Are you going to want voice mail and the such. How many extensions, ect. The best KSU-less system on the market (IMHO) is the Epic 4000 from TMC. 4 lines x 16 extensions and just about every feature you can think of. The phones are well made, easy to program and a pleasure to use. Good quality speakerphone, built in headset amp, backlit display, CID/CW, distinctive ringing, delayed ringing, toll restriction - you name it. The company, located in New Jersey, developed the "missing" features in short order and sent me new firmware to upgrade my 16 phones. Another issue, peculiar to my installation, required some custom engineering to solve. Rather than tell me that the other equipment was simply not compatible they developed a firmware solution and again sent it to me at no cost. Very impressive!! Try getting that level of service from Panasonic or AT&T! If you order some, check to see that you get version 2.09 or 2.09b. They'll send you the chips if you buy ones that aren't up to that level.
