Advice on Small Business Phone System ?Q. We're looking at the Panasonic TD-308 or TD-816 system, along with their phones and TVS-75 or TVS-100 voice mail systems. It looks like going with the entry systems, this would cost us at least $2500. Does the Panasonic system work well? Is it a pain to program? Are there any other systems we should look at? Is it worth looking at any of the PC based systems? A. We need to set up a new phone system for our small business. We have 2 incoming lines, and may go to 3. We also have a dedicated fax line and a dedicated modem line. We'll have 5 extensions sets connected, but probably only 3 in use at any one time. We need a system that has pretty flexible automated attendant and voice mail capability. Some people say they keep extras on hand in case the first one goes dead shortly after installation. Hasn't happened to me yet. It's probably the easiest. If you're doing the TD's, which are the digital systems, you may need to make sure you get (or may have to buy?) the programming manual. My KXTD 12x32/64 systems come in a box with the manual *updates* only. Undoubtedly, but the KXT's are sooo cheap, that if price matters to you, you probably shouldn't waste your time. Absolutely! But they are kind of expensive on a per-phone basis for a small business. Overkill for now, but they expand with you, unlike a 308. The easiest to install is the NexPath. The most expandable and cool is the Altigen. [Caution, unfounded opinion alert: I've never installed either of these, just read the manuals...] The panasonic digitals are good systems and in my opinion better than the analogs. Keep in mind that the 308 is limited to 3 C.O.'s MAX !!! if you beleave you will add a 3 rd line in the near future go for the 816 as you will have room for growth. P.C. based systems are still pritty pricey especaly in small configurations. also most do not support multibutton sets. as far a programing all you need is a LCD set, for that. These are suppost to be avable to dealers with factory trained techs only, but can be had if you know where to go.The down side is that usualy only the factory trained techs have the software for P.C. programing. As for voice mail ther is an inexpensive one avable from Voice Lodgic that is way less expensive than the Panasonic systems, by the way dont bother with any thing larger than the TVS-75 for an install as small as yours
