Cost of Telephone Service in DFW ?

Edwards Finance > Phones

Q. Are there any secret deals on no frills residential telephone service? I'm in the North Irving area, and my I am currently paying $45/mo ($550/yr) for SBC. Our LD carrier is Sprint, and they get about $25/mo for calls both in state, and out of state. I don't have a cell phone, so dropping service altogether is not an option. We are experiencing a small personal deficit, and trying to trim the bills a bit.

A. Check out Package Deals with SBC. I know they have a LD program where for $20.00 per month you get UNLIMITED LD anywhere, anytime within the USA. Also for 26.95 per month they offer DSL which is like half what Cable internet is if you have this. Your SBC bill may go up, but if you can get rid of a few other vendors you may save in the long run. For long distance we overdial 1010811 and that works out to be about $20 per month, but we do use cell phones so that wont help you. But your HIGH-SPEED Cable is like $50.00 per month. The price you listed is about the same for BASIC Service for SBC. I know I have read in the Newspapers that you really need to look at their PACKAGE deals to get the best savings. Also when you figure in INTERNET access and Long Distance the packages can really add up. I pay @ 100.00 per month for Local Service, Unlimted Long Distance, Caller-ID, Call Waiting, Voice Mail and DSL Internet & Dial-Up. Overall I feel it is a Pretty good package. If you are on SBC, you can get phone service easily for $20 a month, just take off all the other stuff, like caller id, call waiting etc etc, they all cost an exorbanant amount of money. Unlimited long distance, with all features is 48.95 with SBC + surcharges and tax, it ends up being about 60 a month for unlimited long distance after all charges, really not that bad. For another 4.95, you can get unlimited long distance to Canada. I also have DSL from SBC. I pay under $100 a month for both unlimited long distance and DSL, after all taxes and surcharges, and fees. EXACTLY, you just need to aggregate other services that you may be paying to other vendors in to save. The Package deals are the best way to save. Only drawback that SBC has over Cable is they dont offer TV programming yet. Maybe next year & then we would really see some competition. Cable needs to come up with a Package offering Telephone, Cable TV, Intenet and Long DIstance for around $100.00 per month to really be competitive. With Basic Cable TV costing $35.00 per month & then Cable-Internet at $50.00 and so on, way too much. Cable Internet needs to be around $30.00 per month or less to be competitive with DSL offers.
