Cantel's prepaid phone service ?Q. Does anyone know what the details are? I'm going to be in Halifax this Wednesday and will be checking out what's new at the Cantel store at Bayers Lake. The kids have the 2160 since they are going to school in Halifax. My wife and I each have an Omnipoint phone and we are looking into a low cost phone that will work in Atlantic Canada. We arent there often but when there, we are without a mobile phone.:) I really dont think going Fido with a dual band phone will be a very viable option at this time but who knows. A. Easy: $149 for phone, activation and 1x$25 prepaid phone card. or $75 for activation and 1x$25 prepaid phone card. During activation you can request a telephone number in any of 39 different cities. The phone works anywhere in Cantel's network, the rate is $0.42/minute regardless of where in Canada you call from or to. The rate to call the US is $0.75/minute. Zero balance accounts remain on the system for 1 year... lets say you only use the phone seasonaly, you could let the balance go to zero for 6 months and then associate another PrePaid card and away you go. No carrying cost for the 6 months you were inactive. The only catch is that once you associate a $25 card to your account you must either use it within 60 days (associating another card just before the 60 days gives you another 60 days for any remaining balance as well as the new $25. Worse case: if you associate a card and don't use the phone at all (not sure why anyone would do this), then the cost would be $12.50/month. Another way to look at is: $12.50/month gives you 30 minutes free calling to anywhere in Canada, and you can roll you balance forward provided you associate another card before your 60 days is up (the system tells you how many days left).
Other Questions: The only easiest way to view the actual signal strength is to get into the phone's diagnostic program for the dBm level. Now it depends on how much you want to spend. You could have a tower installed, correct antenna and amps to boost signal in ... telephone answering service info ?I'm starting up a small part time business, and would like to have a telephone number that is directed to a telephone answering service, where a live person takes the details of the call and sends it onto me (via email/ text/ etc).
