ISDN PBX with POTS lines?

Edwards Finance > Phones

Q. I am looking for a recommendation for a small PBX which can have around 8 POTS extensions with 2 basic rate ISDN exchange lines. The POTS lines will be used for modems and must support 33k and preferably 56k - this is for a setup for testing software which drives various different makes of modems, so 64k ISDN terminal adaptors are of no interest here.

A. This PBX will actually hang off the company's real PBX (Toshiba Strata 280) using an S interface card. Thus the Toshiba is in effect an NT1 and my new PBX an NT2. Although the Toshiba does support POTS lines itself, they do not support more than 9.6k with modems (I have got upto 19.2k, but that's still no good for me). The Toshiba supports DDI, which can apparently be passed on to my new PBX to give the effect of DDI to the POTS lines, so I need my new PBX to support this. A potential further complication is that the Toshiba's own exchange lines are a primary rate DASS2, and I've been told that this means the signalling to the NT2 might be missing some features (which DASS2 doesn't have, but euro-ISDN expects) and this might cause interworking problems with a new PBX expecting a euro-ISDN interface. We have some nice UK designed systems on our web pages that will provide POTS extensiosn from two ISDN lines, made by Network Alchemy. They also support caller display signally if that is something you need to test on your modems.
