PBX telephone Center ?Q. May eney body tell me if i can deal with the PBX using TAPI? the PBX is a telephone swithching the switch the incoming call to any extintion you want. A. You can certainly use TAPI with a PBX. HOWEVER you will need a TAPI Service Provider (TSP) provided by the PBX developer. You will need to check with the PBX company to see if they support TAPI. are there any examples out there of talking to a pbx as most of the examples seem to involve talking to devices on your workstation rather than a device across the network? That's mean thar i must write a program for special PBX as panasonic for example? and my program can not work at any other PBX? and if they like that, from where i should start in TAPI. I think Panasonic provides TSPs for some of their PBXs. You would really need to work with them in that regard. Depending on how you write your application it is possible it would work on other PBXs. However, in my experience, it is easier to develop for a specific PBX and then expand the code to support additional PBXs as needed. The bottom line is that every TSP/PBX have unique characteristics that while "TAPI standard" still needed to be coded for. No matter what, you will need to test ANY TAPI application on any TSPs you intend to support. TAPI encompasses such a large amount of functionality that you really have to test to make sure some subtle difference doesn't bite you. First step, in my opinion, is to get a copy of the MS SDK TAPI Browser (see links off the 2 TAPI FAQs linked off the bottom of my web page below) and use that to understand your TSPs features.
