Oregon state income tax?Q. I work in the state of Washington and live in Oregon; therefore, I'm subject to Oregon state income tax. (There's no state inc. tax in WA) I just found out that if one lives in Washington and works in Oregon, he/she would still have to pay Oregon taxes. Does anyone know how this works or what statutes apply? What if one lived in CA and worked in OR - would this mean double state tax, or is there a special relation OR-WA? A. Common occurence. Most states will tax you if (1) your live in the state or (2) you work in the state. If (2) applies you are only tax on the income you make in that state. Unless there is special tax treaty you woulld pay tax to both jurisdictions. Normally at a a minimum you can deduct the taxes from your working stating to you residential state. Here in New Jersey if you work in Penn and live in NJ you just pay NJ tax (If you work in Philadelphia, you will pay Philadelphia wage tax), if you work in NY you will pay NY tax and NJ tax but can deduct the NY tax on your NJ income.
