Office Phone System ?Q. We are moving Office soon, at present we have a Goldstar pbx(?) system, which is getting a bit old and spare phones, etc, are now difficult to find, so we are looking at putting in a new system in the new office. There will only be a need for about 6 phones, but we do want to have an intercom facility with them and be able to put calls through to different phones (they can all ring when we get an incoming call). What I'm looking for is recommendations. Do we have to go with the box on the wall type system, or can normal type phones do what we require. We would also consider DECT type phones if they have the intercom, putting calls through facility. - Panasonic KXTA624 (which is supplied as 3+8 but expands to 6+24). Requires 1 system phone for programming, but can use standard phones for other extensions. Very flexible call answering and Least Cost Routing setup. If you are *sure* your needs will not exceed 2 lines in the foreseeable future, then Panasonic KXTA208 (2+8, or is it KXTA206, offline so can't check) does not need a system phone for programming. Available new (and the manuals can be downloaded as PDFs) from www.tlc-direct.co.uk - BT/Norstar Compact 616 or Compact Plus. Now no longer available new AFAIK, but a very popular system often available on Ebay and installers are familiar with it. Only uses system phones, which may be a drawback (although the Plus has one analogue extn port for use with answering machine, fax, etc). You will need a key-system to handle calls the way you want, with proprietary phones. There is plenty of choice, but it is advisable to choose one with analogue ports as well to support DECT extensions, plus any other special requirements (answer machine, fax/modem, headset phone etc.) The term "intercom" I always find ambiguous. It generally applies to internal calls (extension-to-extension), and any system can do that. If you mean the ability to page a particular user via handset loudspeaker, that is less universal. If you're keen on DECT, you might consider the DECTsys. All handsets are cordless (including a desk-phone and data adaptor), and can ring together as a group (with one handset having priority). The basic version is limited to only 2 lines, with relatively limited features. The Pro 428 has more features (including voice mail, door-entry phone), but may be too large for your needs (4 lines + 28 sets). On the other hand, you would save by not having to wire your new office. It can do paging, but I think it needs external speakers. A.

However, that doesn't work internally. Any suggestions? There should be a feature code w...
