Nortel Networks Office Phone. Need Pro's + Con's for MICS at multi sites ?

Edwards Finance > Phones

Q. I am being asked what are the Pro's of linking 3 sites using MICS's at all three sites. The NEC Guys are telling the customer that the Norstar has some limitation when using ACD, NVM, and some type of networking. Can anyone tell me the Pro's and Con's by using T1's, ISDN, or Tie lines.

A. what are he limits for ACD and Norstar Voice Mail - Should each site have a MICS + a NAM with ACD and Voice mail? or can they share one unit for all three sites. Site A - (Main) has 60 Ext's 40 of the 60 are Agents Site B - (Sub) Has 16 Ext's 6 of the 16 are Agents Site C - (sub) Has 16 Ext's 6 of the 16 are Agents This is true. I don't think Norstar is the way to go on this. Plus the Norstar can only handle 2 T-1's Maximum. So, even if you TIE your sites, your inbound and outbound lines will need to be ISDN BRI, or POTS. Eech... I would advise you to check out the Meridian 1 Option 11C Mini for your sites. One site would be a full Option 11 with Meridian MAX and the other 2 would be Mini's. There is no good way to do this with the MICS that I am aware of. The best you can do to transfer across your network is to do unsupervised conference to other extensions. And there are signal losses that you can't compensate for (in any way that I am aware of) across each conference. You could try to set up some kind of auto-answer trunks for the VM, but MWI would only work on the system where the VM is attached. ACD would also not go across the network. I have a Cinphony ACD on an MICS, which has a lot of features, but an unsupervised conf I don't think is one of them. If the systems are within 2 miles of each other, you could run fiber & put a station module or 2 at each site. Norstar just doesn't have the networking capabilities that it needs. Nortel has put those abilities into the Meridian product line. You can also look at the enterprise edge system form Nortel Networks, I am not to sure of the specs on this unit but I do beleve that you can link the systems via ethernet along with your site to site WAN. (You should also be able to have agents at home operate there office phone over the network as well. If you want me to get some information let me know, I am getting two units into the office for testing in the next six weeks so I will let you know what the outcome is. The Edge stuff looks good but he info on the NT page and the auto config for the EE did not work right for me. The EE stuff looks good but i need more config info to talk about it and any one tell me where i can get a PDF or a white papaer on the config or should i jus look at the Option 11C for connecting 3 sites since the MICS + Flash W/ACD will not work well.
