Starting up a mobile phone business - help ?Q. I'm thinking about starting up a mobile phone company, trading via the net.. and would like to ask a few Qs to people who are doign it or done it before. 1. What is the minimum capital required? 2. Are there any other legal requirements for selling mobiles other than starting up the LTD company? 3. What is the best type of premises/location? Office, warehouse type units, high st? 4. How does the commission thing work? 5. Best way to find suppliers, direct from manufacturer or going via wholesaler? 6. Any other things I need to know, that I haven't asked? A. If you are trading via the web, it is up to you. You will need somewhere for suppliers to deliver to you, and somewhere secure to store them. You will need somewhere for your admin/connections people. You will need somewhere to dispatch from The high street seems a pretty silly location, unless you also plan to have a retail shop. Have you though about how you will manage to do better than the competition? How you will market your business? Have you considered why so many mobile phone businesses have gone bust in the last couple of years? If you are really serious about this, perhaps you should spend a year or so working for someone with an existing, successful business, or you should employ someone with the requisite experience. There is a lot more to it than setting up a web site and watching your bank balance decrease. Thanks for the replies, so you guys are saying that it is harder than it "seems" to be? So should I work for a high st mobile business (e.g CPW) for a while to see what it is like? No, that would teach you nothing at all: the people working there are shop staff, doing retail sales and dealing with customer queries, but they have no view of the "back end" of the business. You would have to work for a small company (about the size you want yours to be) and make sure you see the whole shebang. It's not a business I'd go into: you are a powerless pawn in the hands of big companies who don't give a shit about their small-fry dealers.
