Norstar sets on a MITEL pbx, End in site for OCTEL ?Q. This product will also be supported on the 3300 VoIP switch by August. Norstar phones on a Mitel 3300, what will they think of next? A. You know, you have to give Mitel credit. They have come a long way. Mitel has thrown that "we only want big business" mentality out the window. Mitel has nice equipment that looks great. They have some great designers. I hope Mitel continues to do well. Now there is a great idea. As long as the Norstar protocols were reverse-engineered, then Mitel should be ok. Of course, that won't stop Nortel from filing suit. I guess this is one way for Mitel to get a phone that works. My friend, Mitel is a world leader in communication equipment. They were the first to maket with displays, and softkey support. They were the first to delivery a single pair cable requirement for a digital set to the switch, when all others were still droping 25 pair cables to each phone. I'm guessing you have not worked with Mitel equipment, but rather heard stories from technicians that don't understand how the prodcuts work, nor taken the time to take a trainning course. Mitel makes good stuff! Yes, they need to work on the software errors a bit more, but in general they make one good switch! I have not seen the Mitel VoIP product, it may be very good. I agree with you about the future of VoIP and did not state otherwise. There are several VoIP products out there though including Nortel, Cisco, Allcatel... I am not convinced that Mitel will dominate the VoIP market. Mitel, may not dominate the market, but they have done a very good job with the 3300. Every other PBX manufacture talks about "upgrading that PBX to and IP-PBX." Mitel has done this VERY WELL. At this point, the 3300 now outsells the SX2000. As for the previous comment, I was only attempting to show Mitel's rich history. Mitel will do very well with the 3300. Nortel & Avaya have some catching up to do compared to Mitel. The only reason Nortel & Avaya out sell Mitel on this, is solely based on the brand name. Mitel beats both of these hands down!
