Meridian Phone System Help Wanted ?

Q. I have a Meridian phone system installed in my business. When I took over this business the owner told me all the passwords for the system. I don't remember the admin password for the system. I know the password for restricted calls. I know that the passwords are not the same. I tried the admin way twice; that doesn't seem to pass that screen. If there is anyone who can help me change that password with out messing up the program and deleting anything from the system.

A. We just moved our office to a new building. This building has a Nortel Meridian phone system. All the phones are Nortel Meridian phones, and in the computer room, there are two big Nortel Meridian cabinets. Bear with me, I'm no telco expert. Anyhow, all the lines are analog.... We don't have digital phone lines. I'd like to be able to plug my sportster or courier into the phone system. I can't figure it out though. When I plug a regular phone in to the jack, there is no dial tone. When I plug a Meridian phone into the jack, everything works. Your statement that you have no digital phone lines is incorrect. The Meridian phones are proprietary digital telephone sets, which use a proprietary digital protocol to talk to the switch. Your lines are digital, not analog. You can't connect modems to those lines. Find out if the switch is also equipped with analog lines and connect your modem to one of those. Otherwise, you'll need to purchase an adapter. I know these exist, but I'm afraid I don't know more than that. I wonder if just the internal phone system is digital. We have a couple of internal analog lines, and they use the same phone number as the digital lines. We've got probably 200 internal phone numbers, with...heh...3 outside phone lines... It's really getting to be a pain hooking the modem up via a 100' phone cord to one of the analog lines... Especially when I have one of those meridian phones on my desk.
