modem out via meridian pbx??

Q. I'm curious if anyone has been able to dial out through a Nortel Meridian Digital PBX with a standard modem. I've seen a product in the 'blackbox' catalog sold under the name "linc ups" which purports to provide that capability but there is no mention of line speeds. If anybody can shed some light on this I'd be very grateful.

A. Using an analog port on a Meridian PBX is just like using your home phone line. If you are asking "can I use my Meridian digital 'phone' with a modem?" then yes, if you get one of the adapters you mention. Figure on getting 28.8-33.6, and feel very lucky if you get more. some folks do get more but Nortel says it is unlikely. We had our installers tell us that we would need an analog card to be able to use our phone lines for a modem. Since from these posting this appears to not be the case, could you explain to me where I could get an adapter so that one of users can use his modem through the existing switch. Exactly where do I get a "black box catalog", any recomendations on an adapter. If this information is sensitive please email your response. I was wondering if someone could advize me on a similar problem. I was informed by our installer that since we do not have an analog card that we could not run a modem line through an Outlet wired to a PBX. However, from what I have been reading, this is not the case. Could you provide me a little more detail to this product? I have looked at blackbox's web site, but could not find "linc up".
