Q. anyone else who has tried the new phonesets that have a USB connection to a PC instead of the legacy serial cable?

A. Nortel Meridian 9617 USB phone seems to be the newest two-line deskphone on the block at http://www1.nortelnetworks.com/entprods/phones/us/Pm9617USB.html . It would provide faster screen pops with CallerID info to the right person's call/account record. There is a TestDrive-review by Andy Green, "Don't Get Rid of Those Analog Lines!" TeleConnect magazine, June 99, p20-21, which tested the phone and Personal Call Manager PIMs, and Personal Voice Dialer, a voice recognition dialer. Current issue is not on-line at http://www.teleconnect.com/content/toc . Green was pretty impressed; it also operates as a very smart stand-alone phone when not connected to the PC. Because it has USB, phoneset and PIM app was always in-sync. It looks like Computer Telephony magazine awarded it "Best of Show" at CTExpo 98 too. Anyone else tried this phone with Starfish SW SideKick 9X which is a powerful single-user personal information manager (PIMs), with addressbook, calendar, and To-do list? http://www.starfishsoftware.com/products/sk99/sk99.html . Additionally, since Motorola has recently released a Palm-like PDA that clips on to a StarTAC cell phone using StarfishSW (bought by Motorola) and other PIMs, it would be great to keep office phone / organizerPC / organizerMobile / cell phone that is all in-sync.
