Mac - friendly PBX reommendation ?Q. Has anyone got an experience of a small ISDN PBX, with CTI software for Mac? I'm currently using an Agfeo AS40, but it may be in the process of dying, so I might need a replacement urgently. I'm not that impressed with it, and it doesn't offer the functionality I want, so I probably wouldn't go Agfeo again. Agfeo do however do OS X CTI oftware, though it is currently only in German. A. We've got a Maximiser from Splicecom; they have Mac clients as well as Windows ones (and a Java one for Linux) and were even at the Mac Expo back in November. The server's basically a sort of strange cut-down Linux box running a configuration web server and an address book in a directory accessible over LDAP (though you have to ignore most of the LDAP standards in the process). The only thing that doesn't work is VoIP, but that may be down to our network configuration. LDAP scares me. In the short term I just need it to work as a PBX. In the long term I want screen popping on the clients. I would want to ignore the address book on the PBX, have the PBX / server just serve out the incoming phone number to the clients, and have the client match this in a filemaker database. Are you able to say if this may be viable with the Maximiser? will it work without the server box? I'm thinking of what happens if tthe mains fails. The PBX must be on my UPS, but if operation of the PBX requires a sserver to be always on, that is another couple off hundred watts conssumption that I could do without. It *really* wants to use its own address book, so you need to figure out a way of syncing your Filemaker DB into its address book. We just do a mass dump and load from our contacts database every so often (I wrote a perl script to do it), and that works well enough. There are actually two boxes. You'd have to talk to Splicecom to find out how interdependent they are on each other.
