HELP: Gentner TC100 Telephone Interface on a Lucent PBX system

Edwards Finance > Phones

Q. We have a call-in line to provide reports for radio stations, etc. and we want to use a Gentner TC100 Telephone Interface between the phone line and our cart machine. The Gentner works correctly at home, releasing the line 10 seconds after the caller hangs up. When I take it in to work where we have a large Lucent PBX system the telephone line does not release. The telecom guys at work didn't have an immediate answer so I thought I'd try the experts here ;-) I got the following off the Gentner web site (it's about a different product, but I'm wondering if it might apply): "Caller Hangs Up But Telephone Line Does Not Release?

A. Telephone lines/systems differ. Most provide loop current when a call is on a line. The TS612 monitors this loop current to determine when a caller hangs up. If the telephone line does not provide loop drop on disconnect, there may be a customer-selectable option on your telephone line to provide loop current. If not, try using a modem extension from the telephone system (these typically provide loop drop)." Does this sound like a solution? What is a modem extension? This really isn't my area and I'd really appreciate info any one has to offer. This may work.... A modem extension is just a bare-bones line that operates independantly of how the PBX is programmed. I've seen many pbx's which are not set up to drop loop current because another signal is sent to the phone to reset the line. Basically, see if there's a fax line or a line that's a 'through' line rather than a line on the PBX... Likely the analog lines on your switch will not do it unless your software and hardware is of a late vintage....ask your Lucent rep if the analog lines support CPC signaling (thats what it is called for your home line...Calling Party Control)...the line breaks loop current (actually voltage) for 300ms or longer when the DISTANT party hangs up.....I cannot do that on my Nortel PBX at ABC (we use Gentners and Telos boxes also)...I have an older software release that doesnt do it (Rls 22 I think does....Im running Rls 19 in the switch now).. Contact Lucent and ask them...if they dont support CPC on the analog stations in the switch, time to upgrade it or run direct outside lines to the Gentner! Also what kind of INCOMING lines do you have to the LUCENT? Ground start or loop start? The switch has to get OUTSIDE CPC before it can do it inside!! (a little test...call one of the analog lines on your LUCENT..an inside extn that is.....answer the line with a regular phone and hold a DTMF button down on it....now continue to hold the digit.. listening for it in the handset, hang up the calling phone and see if the DTMF digit stops or keeps going on the CALLED phone... If it stays, the switch is NOT killing loop current/voltage to the phone...thats is what the Gentner needs to work properly!)
