Finance Q&A

comparisons of local phone service providers?

Edwards Finance > Phones

Q. Anyone know of some good, unbiased sites where I could do some research on this topic? I just got a voip line and intend to use it for all my long distance; However, I want to keep two lines, so would like to pair my landline down to a pretty minimal configuration. Ideally, the only two features I would want on it would be caller ID, and no answer/ busy forwarding. This way, I could have calls forward to my voip provider's voice mail after a certain number of rings. one site i've found that seems pretty good is http://www.phonedog.com However, I found them via google, which obviously doesn't necessarily mean they're reliably unbiased. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

A. Unless you are willing to move to the places that offer the prices and/or features you want to have, about all you can do is ask the phone company who services your area what options are available. Knowing what's offered 2,000 miles away doesn't help. Good Afternoon Al- Here at phonedog.com we do proudly offer an unbiased telecom consumer resource, but unfortunately are unable to compare local telephone providers only. We are also unaware of any websites available that provide a comparison of local providers only. If your current telephone provider is unable to offer a plan to fit your needs, we would recommend checking your local telephone book for possible other local service providers in your area. I guess i'm a bit confused. SBC is my primary phone company; However, at least in this part of the country, we're not tied to them for local service any more. I believe that they still charge these other companies pretty hefty line fees and such, but there is at least to some extent, freedom of choice now. A few such services i have found to date are: http://www.cleartel.com http://www.trinsic.com http://www. http://ld.net/products/?product=pnglocal&cogid= 123bestrates&refid=cognigen.net/png&aname= 123BestRates.com&logo=http://www.123bestrates.com/images/123bestrates_tr ans.gif&url=http://www.123bestrates.com&bizop=Y&style= I guess i'm looking for any experiences or info about these, or suggestions as to other, similar services.
