Q. Anyone use a Jacobs Engineering Ultra coil in their car and, if so, results?

A. -I used one of their ignition systems along with wires and it was great — HP and mileage went up. However, the spark it puts out melted my distributor cap and it had to replaced more often -Based on my reading of their product, they provide their own distributor cap now. Maybe rotor also. Most of the higher output coils require a better cap & rotor. -I met Dr. Jacobs once. He told me that no aftermarket ignition outperforms a stock GM HEI up to 8000 RPM. He also says this in his book. -I never received a new cap when I bought one their systems. FYI don't get the system with the security setup. Mine went haywire after the warranty and kept shutting off my engine. Jacobs wanted to charge me $35 just to look at it! After I my engine died (10 times), on the way to work I had to have it towed home. Then it was a bitch to remove the whole system and go back to my stock setup. Never again!
