Avaya IP Office 403 custom TAPI programming

Edwards Finance > Phones

Q. I'm trying to develop a custom TAPI application which will work with IP Office, but experiencing some strange problems. I've installed Phone Manager iPro application (activated with valid licenses) and it's working OK - I can make and receive calls. But, when I try to do that from a custom application I' cant receive calls, not even a notification that call is incoming. Even stranger, when I run my custom application in then same time with Phone Manager, then I'm receiving notification about incoming call in my custom application. Is there somebody who succeeded in developing custom application which is able to receive calls from Avaya IP Office PBX ? Is there a some kind of developer documentation or sample code on developing custom application that works with IP Office ?

A. I have no experience with Avaya PBX / TSP but there are some things to check: Are you developpimg a TAPI 2 or 3 app? What privileges do you use (monitor and/or owner)? Try it with TAPI Browser TB20 / TB3x before starting to code anything yourself. If you can repro then please post a trace. Try it with JulMar tools (Answer / Phone / TCMon). Take a look at the sample code from P-SDK and open source code for the tools from JulMar. See my TAPI and TSPI FAQ: Q: Are there any Tools for TAPI available ? http://www.i-b-a-m.de/Andreas_Marschall's_TAPI_and_TSPI_FAQ.htm#_Q:_A... Q: Is there a user guide available for TAPI Browser TB3x ? http://www.i-b-a-m.de/Andreas_Marschall's_TAPI_and_TSPI_FAQ.htm#_Q:_I... I developed my first TAPI applications with the Network Alchemy - which was the forerunner of the IP Office. There is nothing really unusual about the IP Office. Post some code and I will happily take a look at it. I am pretty sure Phone Manager does not use TAPI. I think it uses sockets communication. You don't need a licence either for basic TAPI stuff. (You need the licence for such things as call forwarding). Have you installed the IP Office TAPI driver? Can you dial using the TAPI Browser / some other TAPI application? We use an Avaya IP Office 403 (Software Release 2.1(15)), and have developed applications which utilise the Avaya IP Office TAPI2 Service Provider. As Angus suggested, check to see if this is installed (Phone and Modem Options, Advanced Tab). Phone Manager and TAPI use Windows Sockets - if you use WinXP Pro SP2, the BLF (Busy Lamp) will not function and you have to configure an exception in the Firewall. The Phone Manager software has three flavours to it - Phone Manager Lite; Phone Manager Pro and Phone Manager iPro. The software between all three versions is exactly the same, you configure which users use which flavour (Lite; Pro or VOIP - relates to iPro) in the User section of the Manager application and you will need Phone Manager Pro and Phone Manager Pro IP Audio Enabled licenses (and a voice compression module for IP Phones or IP Softphones - iPro) By default, when you install Phone Manager, the option to have TAPI is not selected. You will need to reboot the client PC after addition of TAPI (if you didn't install it initially). TAPI is provided in two flavours for the Avaya IP Office - "Single User" or "Third Party". The Third Party mode requires a CTI Link Pro License and allows you to select the Extension Number you wish to use. The Avaya IP Office is not a Traditional "Third Party TAPI" model - ie, it doesn't use remotesp.tsp. If you are using a Terminal Services Application and wish to use TAPI with this, it won't work unless you use "Third Party Mode". The Avaya IP Office also loads the TSP at boot time which can be a disadvantage if you "undock" a computer, put it into standby mode and then dock it again - the TAPI connection for these situations is lost and a reboot connected to the LAN is required. If you are using Phone Manager iPro, you will need to cater for this in your application if you wish to make use of Call Pickup functionality directly from your application. We have found some issues where you use both Phone Manager and the TAPI TSP simultaneously - particularly with inbound calls - they may both be using the same port? We have developed applications which piggy-back on TAPI service providers, and we have recently developed an SDK for our "Zeronphone CTI" software for Web Browser enabled applications.
