How often can one declare bankrupt?Q. Will someone please tell me how often one can declare bankrupt? Suppose you can declare bankrupt every three (3) years, do you have to pay for the debt accrued after the bankrupt until three years later to discharge it again? A. You do not "declare" bankruptcy. You file a petition in bankruptcy, court and it is granted, or not, by a Federal Judge. Rarely not. You can only file bankruptcy every seven years. There may be in your state a court proceeding called trusteeship which can get you relief from wage garnishment, but you have to have a job and make regular payments into the trusteeship to get the protection. If you can only go bankrupt every seven years you shoud not waste it on a few thousand bucks. If you have to declare bankruptcy on a regular basis you are displaying either dishonesty or blatant incompitency as related to financial affairs. Especially if you are doing them only three years apart. But no matter... two bankruptcy declarations should effectively kill any and all hope for credit in the future.
