Home phone service in Ottawa?

Edwards Finance > Phones

Q. I'm moving shortly and am considering a landline in my home again (have been on a cellphone for the last couple years, but my calling patterns are about to change and will require basically unlimited local calling for less than, say, $40 a month). I'm trying to make sure I have all the bases covered in terms of companies offering real home phone service in Ottawa. By 'real', I mean not VOIP - a phone line running into my house, old- fashioned style. No internet or other stuff required.

A. Rogers Home Phone uses Bell Copper, and you can keep the same phone number. I believe you have to have Bell Copper in place, Rogers website only talks about "switching" nothing can be found about new installs. Rogers Internet Phone service is their VoIP service And how does Rogers Home Phone use Bell Copper? Rogers uses their own cable line, hooks up a VoIP modem, and then plugs in all your existing phone lines into the modem. The phone lines inside your home belong to you, not Bell. Only the line outside your home belongs to Bell. Depends on the service you order. Rogers has both a VoIP solution, and (because of their sprint takeover) a landline copper solution, by leasing the twisted pair from ma bell.
