Rogers Home Phone ?

Edwards Finance > Phones

Q. Anyone ocnsidering switching to Rogers home phone? I know there are several good reasons to switch but I believe the service requires a separate modem that requires power to operate as opposed to regular phone system that has it's own power.

A. I switched, it does require a modem, but it has a battery backup so if the power does go out, you still got your phone service. So looked up Rogers in phone book and called their 1 888 number. What an exercise in frustration!!!!! Had to listen to this irritating voice asking questions that were not pertinent to what I had to ask. Namely what areas it would be available, the cost, how soon, discounts for having other Rogers services etc.? Also what was that about some sort of special offer. After wading through layers and several minutes of "Which home service are you enquiring about .... etc." Finally reached a human. She wanted my telephone number! Why? To look up your account. But I don't have an account with you that's what I want to ask about. Oh; Well then what is your postal code. Gave that. No sorry not available in your area. I see what areas IS it available, would that be Mount Pearl perhaps? Well sir it is available in Moncton. But that's in New Brunswick and I'm in Newfoundland! Well I can only tell you by postal code. So you can't tell me what area/s of Newfoundland the Rogers Home Phone is./ will be available then? No Sir, I can only tell you by postal code. By the way where are located? In Montreal Sir. So is there anything you can tell me about the availability of Roger Home Phone in Newfoundland then. No Sir I don't have any information. You can indeed take your number with you, it's been that way for a while but up until now it didn't matter, with one home phone provider. You can also convert a cell number to a home line and vice versa. Just DO not disconnect the line before you make the request, or you may run into issues. I don't see Rogers as being any cheaper if you need voicemail, if you like caller i.d., etc. I laughed when I saw the Rogers promo material that quoted Aliant service with 2 features at 35.95 + tx; Rogers' was a few bucks cheaper. They neglected to mention (and of course, why would they ;-) that the local value package with Aliant gives you all the features (around 7 or 8, I think) for 36.00 + tx. I've had Rogers in my life, cable. Never again, not if it was free. Love them or hate them, Aliant is far more reliable than cable.
