Finance Q&A

FRONTIER COMMUNICATIONS ?

Edwards Finance > Phones

Q. I'm interested in learning more about this company. Thinking of doing business with them. If there's anyone out there who's done business with them, know someone who has, or just knows about this company.

A. Parent Company RCI out of New York, they came into the forefront recently with the acquisition of other regional carriers like AllNet, World Call Telecommunications, Execuline of Sacramento, American ShareCom, and a variety of others. Their pricing is geared towards the "Big Three" customer with the best pricing coming with a combination of a term contract (up to two years) and monthly volume requirements. They have had some growing pains (trying to merge and consolidate their acquisitions into a solid nationwide network) but overall a reliable Carrier. They do resell to other Carriers (switchless) and mostly utilize the AllNet network (10444), depending on which Frontier entity you subscribe to. Frontier Communications is the 5th largest long distance carrier in the country. They have been around since 1899, first as Rochester Telephone, then switching their name to Frontier. They own their network, they are not a reseller. They have one of the best billing packages in the industry and there prices are usually between 10 and 50% below the big three. If you are serious about doing business with them I suggest using an authorized agent instead of a direct sales rep. The agents get the best pricing and you still get the same support from Frontier. Excel Communications, Inc., (NYSE: ECI) is one of the fastest growing providers of long distance telecommunications services in the United States. The company offers its subscribers a variety of long distance telecommunications services and products under the EXCEL branded name, which include residential service, commercial service, 800 service, international service, and calling cards. The company's services are marketed nationwide exclusively through a network of independent representatives. Frontier Corporation (NYSE: FRO) is the parent company whose long distance, local telephone and wireless communications subsidiaries provide a range of integrated services to customers. It was chartered in 1920 as Rochester Telephone Corporation. Frontier employs approximately 8,500 people and maintains offices in nearly 150 cities in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. With 2.1 billion in annual revenues, the corporation provided a total return to shareowners of 46 percent in 1995. The combined long distance revenues of Frontier's subsidiaries rank them fifth among long distance companies.
