Q. This expense with my car was going to be my last straw financially. I decided to try to find some way to handle it other than suicide. So I called one of the numbers we give hotline callers who are having debt problems--a place called Genus Credit Management. I feel much better. The person on the phone was really helpful and reassuring. And it's free, so it's not another expense for me. They're going to talk to my creditors and try to work it out so I only have one monthly payment on my debt. They say they can also get interest waived in most cases. Sorry, this sounds like a commercial. But you have no idea how relieved I am. Wish I'd done this sooner. I am determined (at times) to make my life better.

A. I think I should do that. I am still having problems getting things paid off, mainly credit card stuff. I paid the final payment on two this month (thanks Laz and Mog for taking my cheques to the bank since I am in Denmark). But I still get really stressed and then I do nothing and fall behind so they charge me USD20 to write a letter to me so I end up going backwards that month. Mind you I have decided I am going to try and clear all of the storecards (on which the interest hasn't been frozen) this next year, then I only have my credit card left, which they have frozen the interest on now and I am paying then a nominal amount each month. Maybe I should add that to my list of things to do in the week I am back in the UK at Christmas.
