Can I file Ontario income tax while I live in Quebec most?

Q. If I have two places to stay, one in Ontario and one in quebec, all my income (as a landlord) is from Ontario, and I will live most time in Quebec, can I still file income based in Ontario (based on Ontario tax rate) not in Quebec?

A. The province you report to is the one you live in on December 31. The exception is that if you are temporarily away from home (i.e. away at school, living at your vacation home, etc.) then you can file in the province where you have "residential ties." These ties include where your home and personal property are, and where your spouse or common-law partner or dependants reside. Other ties that may be relevant include social ties, a driver's licence, bank accounts or credit cards, and provincial or territorial hospitalization insurance. So if you can fit within that framework, then you are OK.
