Sudying Civil Engineering onlineEdwards Finance > General Engineering Q. I'm a 28 year old male with 7 years of working experience as a civil engineering technician. I have always wanted to be a civil engineer, but finance and family responsibilities has hindered that dream. I was wondering if it would be possible to enroll with an online Institution and peruse this great discipline, Civil Engineering. Also would it be as effective as compared to the traditional campus college attendance?and finally would i be able to apply for financial aid? A. - I doubt any online institution has the "credentials" you'll want at job-finding time. However, that aside... if you want to learn it all alone without the aid of any professors... you better be smart enough. It isn't an easy road. I recommend that you figure out whatever you have to do to get your course work in a more traditional way. You'll be glad you did. -President Lincoln studied law on his own, by the light of a candle and nobody asked him which law school he attended. With seven years of experience, at the present, you probably know a lot more about the field than any recent college graduate. Now, to cover the formality you got to make sure you attend an accredited institution. Not that the employers care that much where you got your degree unless you want to work for NASA or Boeing but, a degree from an accredited college insures elimination of any obstacles that may interfere with your attempts to become a licensed engineer or to continue your education and get your masters degree which you should afterwards. A good portion of the courses such as math, chem, physics,...could be completed online or even at a community college or school of liberal arts and later transferred when you enroll in an accredited university for civil engineering. You got to talk with the financial aid office of institution you decide to attend regarding financial aid issues. The guidelines are a little restrict i.e. if you are working and have a good household income usually no aid is available but, they'll be more than happy to lend you money at about 8% apr, payable upon completion of the program or termination of studies by YOU.
Other Questions: I have an insatiable interest in making things go fast and I would like to follow a few courses in engine building or any other highly technical automotive engineering courses.
