Engineering Jobs

Edwards Finance > General Engineering

Q. I am an East London electronic engineering student on 4-month summer holiday. I am intrerested in some short term work with a company where I can get some real engineering experience in the industry. I am not sure if I stand much of a chance of finding anything thing available for the length of time (my term starts at the beginning of September) but if any one has suggestions I would really appreciate it.

A. -jobsatbeasystems.com or just baesystems.com for a contact with the bae systems group. Planty of jobs for qualified people, not so sure about students, but may be worth a try. and yes I have a personal interest coz I work at the Rochester site but won't say anything about pay and conditions in case the boss is listening! -My own personal experience has shown that short contract engineering jobs over the summer are very few and far between. Apart from placements, most engineering companies want people to stay on for at least a year as the first 3 months tend to be learning rather than actually doing work. It really is too late to apply for a summer job now as demand is slack over the summer months and many firms tend to be in limbo from June to September due to people being away on holidays. The only real way to find a summer engineering job is to take a placement and that means applying in October. You might be lucky to find a manufacturing company that offers short contract work over the summer but most of the jobs tend to be of the manual blue collar variety rather than proper engineering. Even so they are a much better experience than unskilled service sector jobs that most students opt for.
