Knowledge Analyst / Engineer Job Description

Edwards Finance > General Engineering

Q. I am currently looking for job descriptions for a Knowledge Analyst / Engineer so that I can put one together for my company. I have a draft that I would be willing to sent out to anyone that is interested. If anyone would share their job description with me on this area, it would be greatly appreciated.

A. Knowledge Management is a fairly new science. I've found the titles and actual job descriptions vary greatly. Knowledge Management magazine (www.kmmag.com) recently had a discussion trying to define the term. Many organizations use Knowledge Analyst to refer to Subject Matter Experts, others use it to identify only those individuals who actually contribute and maintain the company intranet/internet knowledgebases. Here is one of the better ones that I found from searching the career sites: -- Job Description: *Knowledge Engineer Job Responsibilities: *Own and update customer and internal knowledge bases with new knowledge data *Develop and inventory detailed process flows for knowledge workflow at the "symptom" level *Work with content experts to clarify knowledge and make corrections to inaccurate knowledge or procedures as necessary *Administrate usage reporting and provide analysis on frequently used knowledge *Follow up with clients on existing tools and secure their adoption and continued success *Acquire and disseminate the most current and accurate knowledge to the Tech Center personnel via current tools *Have knowledge of or interest in case-based reasoning systems and AI techniques for delivering troubleshooting solutions *Survey and moderate new knowledge input for publication candidacy *Check new knowledge against existing knowledge for accuracy and redundancy *Work with Lead engineer and QA for new knowledge release schedules and updates to customer knowledge *Scan knowledge for issues which appear to occur regularly *Manage deadlines to ensure timely content delivery *Prioritize and implement knowledge bases updates according to call avoidance potential *Identify needs in the areas of procedures, tools and training in a perpetual effort to provide better solutions in a more timely manner. *Occasional travel to install knowledge bases and train personnel *Attend specialized conferences and training courses as indicated Qualifications: *BS or equivalent *Ability to perform as individual contributor, as a member, and as a leader of a team *Strong ability to organize and prioritize information *Excellent analytical and technical writing skills *Proficient in design and use of process maps *Project management skills *Customer and technical support experience
