Electronics EngineeringEdwards Finance > Electrical Engineering Q. I am new to this group and I am planning on attending school this september for a Bachelor's in Electronics Engineering. I plan on attending Devry in Irving, TX and I have been scouring the internet looking for opinions on the school and/or further information from anyone who has attended. The only things I have found seem to be from people who have never attended college and do not understand the ups and downs of school (i.e. "They keep changing the classes," or "They don't offer classes when I need them.") I already have a Criminal Justice Degree from the University of Texas in Arlington and I understand the problems associated with attending any school. What I am looking for, basically, is information on the Electronics Engineering Technology program. Is it reputable? How thorough is it? How well will it prepare me for lief after school? What can I expect to earn upon finding a job following graduation? The only other items I am locating on the internet is Devry propaganda. I am just looking for honest opinions of the school, good or bad. A. there are jobs out there, but everything I have looked at lately requires experience to go with the degree.... Here's a plan,,,, go to the Monster board, or think jobs, or Engineering Jobs, and look at the engineering openings across the country. This will give you a much better idea where to aim for experience. There are a lot of avenues in the electrical field, take a look at what is required, pick one, aim at it, and go from there... Unless your professors spend part of their year out in the real world, or keep themselves current as to the direction of industry, a lot of them don't have a clue that what is in the books, is just that, in the books, theory, and that's wonderful, but the real world is a bit different.... To a great extent, electrical engineering is not a desk job, but out on a plant floor, or at a construction site,,, Learn a bit of the mechanical end, learn how to twist a wrench, and how to be just a plain ol commercial electrician, and you will go far... Good place to get experience is the military, might not be much in the electrical end, but a lot of good practical experience that in the end will make you a good engineer. I have been in the electrical field for thirty years, and right now, its rough, too many foreign H-1B and L1 engineers and technicians are now in country, and this is killing the jobs for American Citizens, and where there is a job, the foreigners will work for about a third of what you will... It doesn't matter how good you are, they work for less, and a company will hire three of them and not you. And they are not worth the powder to blow them to kingdom come... An American engineer can run rings around them, but there cheap.... Sorry to dampen your day, but this is the truth... If You want to be an electrical Engineer, then goto the IEEE site and see what they have to say, and send a fax or a letter to our great government and express your views on foreign H-1B and L1 engineers and technicians.
