Electrical engineering career.Edwards Finance > Electrical Engineering Q. I plan to major in Electrical Engineering, but a friend of my fathers, who is a electrical engineer, told me that I would have to go out of state (I am in Florida) to find a good high pay job. Is this true? I would like to stay close to all my family. (alot of my relatives live nearby.) A. -I don't know how it is now, but Florida use to be the hot spot for Electrical Engineering jobs. No one knows now what the job situation will be like by the time you graduate. -That depends on what area of electrical engineering you are in. I wouldn't take advice from somebody that generalizes that much if you paid me. -The statement your father's friend made could be said for about any career with the exception of law or a nursing degree. Also, as one of the other posters suggested, the job market could change considerably by the time you graduate. Do you have a genuine interest in electrical engineering? If so, by all mean pursue the that interest. If not, pursue whatever it is that excites or motivates you within. Try not to limit yourself by worrying if you can get a job Florida which by the way you probably will be able to. However, as with any career this type of thinking will limit your choices and you income.
