Q. whats the difference between an electrical engineer and a electronic engineer? I'm guess electronic engineers focus more on solidstate devices.

A. -I think electronic engineer focuses more on low-power solid circuits used for using electrical signal to communicate and electrical engineers focues on transformers, generators, motors, electric heating, wiring and anything to do with doing using electricity to do work. -Have a look at ; www.engology.com It might help. -In the United States, engineering programs are generally accredited by an outfit known as ABET. ABET doesn't recognize any four-year baccalaureate engineering programs in "electronic engineering." It's either electrical engineering or it isn't. There are ABET-recognized programs in "engineering technology" that are variously known as electrical engineering technology, electronic engineering technology, electronics technology, and electromechanical engineering technology. These aren't supposed to be the same as electrical engineering, though some technology programs exceed electrical engineering programs in rigor. The IEEE is the Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. It was formed, for better or for worse, by the union of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (essentially power engineers) and the Institute of Radio Engineers. So that's another possible definition for you, if it's necessary. So much has happened in EE during the last fifty years that the situation is what historians would call "fluid." -Generally, "electronic" and "electrical" engineers stagger out of school with the same words on their diplomas. They just choose to refer to themselves as electrical or electronic. Electronics generally deals with the flow of electrons through crystals and vacuums. Electrical things often don't deal with these matters. - many universities/schools hav been having an electrical engineering faculty before "electronics" was spread enough to become a standalone profession. And the name has just been kept, while the study program was updated... As an electrical eng. student, I 'm taught very little about HV topics - the program focuses on microelectronics, both analog and digital. And most of my professor are scared by any current greater than 10mA :-) The only exception is an option to orient the studies towards power engineering as a specialisation at the end. -As a good rule of thumb, electronic engineer
