What should I do about my credit card debt?? help!

Q. My wife and I are considering buying a new home, but we have about $19,000 in credit card debt right now. We have a yearly income of around $90,000, and consequently could afford to pay off this debt. We also have about $10,000 that we could immediately put toward bringing this debt down. My question is, what would make more sense...getting a debt consolidation loan, taking the 10k and paying off half the bills and making regular payments from then on, getting a "home improvement" loan on our current house and using this money to pay off those bills, or some other option. We currently don't have any other long term debt (no car payments for at least the next two years). We feel that the time to buy a new home is now, but aren't sure whether we should first get this credit card debt wiped out. Anyone have any suggestions or comments or similar experiences?..
