Credit card after bankruptcy .

Edwards Finance > Loans

Q. Is this a normal thing. I took bankruptcy over a year ago. It was on 14 credit cards and was over $60,000.00. One of them was Capital One. Before I had my meeting, Capital one sent my lawyer a letter saying they would reduce my balance to $500.00 and I could keep my unsecured card at 12%. I didn't take them up on the offer and their card was discharged in my bankruptcy. After the bankruptcy, Capital one started sending me applications with a $59.00 annual fee and other charges. These applications were filed in the garbage can. I received the same application several times in the next several weeks and each time filing them in the garbage can. A few months ago they sent me an application for an unsecured Capital One card with no annual fee and no other fees with a 12% interest rate. They said I could even apply for it on their web site and get my account number and a temporary credit line of $200.00 and start using it immediately. I went to their web site and applied and immediately received my card number and $200.00 credit limit. They said I would receive my real card and a new credit line in the mail in a few days. I didn't use it right away and in a few days I received my permanent card in the mail. I was surprised in the fact that the credit line was for $5,000.00 at 12% interest and no annual fee. I had it about 3 months and have just recently tried to use it on a $80.00 purchase and it went right through. Is there any surprises that I don't know about Is it normal for Capital One to issue a card like this just a few month after bankruptcy especially when one of their card was one that was in the bankruptcy. Before the bankruptcy, I had never been delinquent on any of my bills. My credit was around 950 before the bankruptcy and about 650 after the bankruptcy. Is this normal also?

A. I dont know what the average score maybe but my ch. 7 was discharged last July and I bought a car in October without any questions asked and have been offered more credit cards than before my bankruptcy. My score at the time of the auto purchase was somewhere in the low 600's. I still receive at least 2 to 3 offers a week for auto loans and credit cards some of which I toss out and some I look at just to see what the fine print has to say. Capital One was one of the cards I discharged and they tried to do the same thing by offering a deal, but my attorney said thanks but no thanks. We tried to work something out with them to lower the payments during the bankruptcy 341 and they didnt want to listen, but then turned around and started offering deals that came close to what we wanted to discuss. I realize they are the ones floating the cash on the credit line but they( cc companies) know how many people are in trouble in this country today but fail to realize how to help the situation. I was told back in October by a financial advisor that the CC companies are giving out credit lines to people who should not have one. This is what is driving the overall bankruptcy situation farther along in this country. So a score that is in the mid 500's can get you what you want whether it is wise or not. -I would say that it is unusual to have credit score around 650 a few months after BK. Most post-BK credit scores are around 500-550.
