Car audio engineers retarded or on drugs?

Q. Either has to be true, right? It seems like every christmas party, they drop acid and come up with a new look for the connectors on the back of their stuff. After decades of car audio manufacturing, they have not come up with a common standard for these connectors, and are thus making every poor sucker that buy a new radio waste a lot of time finding out stuff and soldering. All those suckers time adds up to a lot of loss for the society. A comparision with computers - that are relatively new compared to car audio - gives an interesting view on the intellectual standard of car audio engineers vs. computer hardware engineers. From the dawn of personal computing a few groups of manufacturers tried to unite on standards (like the Centronics printer port that is still used). As time passes, the ones that remains tries to make their equipment as "connectable" as possible to other - and succeed pretty well. Car audio engineers, OTOH, did not get far - despite working with equipment that is far less complicated to connect.

A. - If I was a high-end company(company A) making amps, prosessors, and the such, would I want company B, that makes crappy electronic parts sound like music, to interface with my expensive equipment. No. Companies only want you to use there stuff and not "theirs". - IBM tried to control personal computers with their proprietary hardware in the beginning. After reverse engineering everyone else started jumping in and universal standards began. And this was the entire point of your post. Hell, you could have swapped out a head unit with less time or thought then what was required for your little bitch fest and that includes everything necessary to swap out a simple little wiring harness. So, who shoved the rat up your ass today?
