Normailising Phone Numbers ?

Edwards Finance > Phones

Q. Some companies have many phone numbers so in this application I've made another table that stores phone numbers only using the company id as the foreign key. I also have another table that lists all the key people to contact in the company also linked using the company id as the foreign key. My question is how do I link a phone number from the phone numbers table (i.e. a mobile number or a direct line) directly to a person and not the company although that person works for that company?

A. make sure the two foreign keys are not required (so one can be empty when the other is filled). Assign ContactID when adding a direct dial, mobile Assign CompanyID when adding a branch fax number etc Now you can easily view company phone numbers WHERE (((tblPhoneNumbers.CompanyID) Is Not Null)) or "personal" numbers WHERE (((tblPhoneNumbers.ContactID) Is Not Null)) or both As long as you maintain data integrity - eg, don't end up with a phone number where bot FK's are filled in Let's say you read an article on a company from the WSJ and you are interested in finding more info about it. But the company is not followed by Value Line or other sources in the library. How do you acquire its phone #? Try calling (800)555-1212. If the company has a 800 number, you may be able to get the number. Otherwise, if you know the city where the company is located, call your local telephone operator to find the area code of the city, then call (area-code)555-1212 and ask for the company's number. Call information for the town mentioned as the location of the company. If they don't have seme kind of visible office listing, forget it. Call 1 800 4 ANNUAL. By calling there you can request 8 copmany's annual reports in one phone call. There is no charge.( Atleast I was not charged). Tell them you're looking for the Investor Relations phone number for a company. They'll ask for the stock symbols. They usually won't let you check on more than 2-3 symbols per phone call.
