Q. What is Clark County School District?

A. Clark County School District purchases of books and other products from Superintendent Carlos Garcia's future employer have multiplied in recent years. Between 2003 and 2004, textbook district purchases from the McGraw-Hill Cos. jumped almost 39 percent, from $2.2 million to $3.1 million, according to district records. The value of other products the company provides the district increased at an even faster pace during that period, rising from... It's only one article and there have been many written about him. He is the current Superintendant of the Clarck County School District. He has been for the last few years. The county brought him in from a similar position from another school district in California. He is the top executive who leads the schhool district. A month ago it was announced that he will be stepping down from his school board position to accept a job with a large publisher. At the time nobody seemed to notice that he is leaving his position to go to work for one of the largest suppliers of textbooks and teaching supplies. I see this press release as a "smoking gun" since it says that his new position involves "Helping large urban school districts to identify teaching materials." This to me means that because of his relationships with his former subordinates and associates within the school district, he will help to increase sales of products from his new employer. Clark County is the 5th largest school district in the country. They purchased over $3 million dollars worth of teaching materials from this company per year. The press release was not meant for the general public - it's meant for publishing insiders to read. That's why he sounds like such a nice guy - it's like they typed his resume word for word. The other article shows that during just one year of his tenure as head of this school district purchases from this company increased over 39%! To add insult to injury he will be working for the school district for almost 4 more months before he leaves to work for this publisher. Not only that he is staying in this town in his new position. He is not relocating. What's that tell you? The large urban markets he is focusing on is Clark County.
