Cheap Phone Service ?

Edwards Finance > Phones

Q. Forget Pacific Bell. You no longer need them. Many companies now offer local service. The best deal in California is from MCI local. $24 per month gets you UNLIMITED calls to the ENTIRE Bay Area, from San Jose to Sonoma. Calls to the rest of California are 5 cents per minutes.

A. They quoted me $0.10 in state and $0.15 out of state, flat rate, any time. John, you are probably correct re repair service, but Pac Bell charges lots and lots and lots of money for their normal service. I converted, and will now see if I live to regret it. BTW, I used "bypass calling" (dialed 5-digits), selecting Sprint. An evening call for 1 minute to Redding (200 mi.) was $0.95! I called Sprint and they told me Pac Bell set that rate. I don't believe it. Buyer beware. I don't know how to break this to you, but those are not MCI cables in your back yard. Guess who still is providing the actual service. Guess who will put YOUR repair problems (as an MCI customer) at the back of the bus if there are problems in the area. I'm not impressed any longer. It took 4 or 5 days last April to get Pac Bell to restore my service, even when I told 611 where the problem was (someone had hit a pole). Their claim was that the "storm" had caused the delay in restoring my service -- 2 months after the storm.
